PERAN SARAMA DATU DALAM PERTUNJUKAN GORDANG SAMBILAN DI PIDOLI DOLOK KECAMATAN PANYABUNGAN KABUPATEN MANDAILING NATAL

Abstract

This study aims to describe the role of Sarama Datu in the Gordang Sambilan performance in Pidoli Dolok Village, Panyabungan District, Mandailing Natal Regency. The research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The object of research is the role of Sarama Datu in the Gordang Sambilan performance, focusing on the implementation of traditional ceremonies and wedding celebrations. The research data consists of primary and secondary data. The main research instrument is the researcher, supported by writing tools and documentation devices. Data collection techniques include literature study, observation, interviews, and documentation, while data analysis is carried out through stages of data reduction, data presentation, conclusion drawing, and verification. Data validity is obtained through source triangulation and technique triangulation. Research shows that Sarama Datu holds an important role in the Gordang Sambilan performance as a traditional figure who guides the ceremony according to Mandailing customs. During traditional ceremonies, Sarama Datu coordinates the Gordang Sambilan performance, ensures the type of gondang matches the stage of the ceremony, and directs the tortor so it follows customary rules. At weddings, Sarama Datu helps organise the Gordang Sambilan show so that each part of the event runs smoothly and in line with marriage traditions. Sarama Datu also helps maintain order in the performance, preserve cultural values, and support the conservation of Gordang Sambilan as part of Mandailing heritage.
