PENGALAMAN BELAJAR SISWA PADA KEGIATAN EKSTRAKURIKULER DRUMBAND DI SMP KARTIKA 1-7 PADANG

Abstract

This study aims to describe in depth the learning experiences of students in the drumband extracurricular activities at SMP Kartika I-7 Padang. The research uses a qualitative phenomenological approach. The research instrument is the researcher themselves, assisted with observation sheets, field notes, and documentation tools. Data was collected through field observations, documentation, and in-depth interviews with the head coach, the section leader, and representatives of the instrument members. The steps to analyse the data are data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results show that students' learning experiences in drumband extracurricular activities at SMP Kartika 1-7 Padang involve active engagement, relevance, reflection, and interactivity. Active student involvement in the learning process includes activities like noting down music notation, memorising melodies, practising rhythm beats, and synchronising marching movements while playing instruments. Students find the learning relevant because the practice material has real use in supporting flag ceremonies and school events, as well as adding to their academic scores. Students reflect on themselves by evaluating technical errors during practice or performances and by changing their behaviour to be more disciplined and responsible. There is high interactivity among students through peer tutoring as an adaptive strategy to overcome the limitation of trainers, which effectively speeds up mastering music skills while instilling cooperation and care for fellow members. So, it can be concluded that students' learning experiences in the drumband extracurricular activities at SMP Kartika 1-7 Padang are meaningful through four interconnected learning experience dimensions, even when faced with various limitations, allowing them to simultaneously develop their cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects.
