ANALISIS STRUKTUR DAN MAKNA LAGU TUNGKEK MAMBAOK RABAH (VERSI FAUZANA)

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the musical structure and meaning of the Minangkabau folk song titled “Tungkek Mambaok Rabah” composed by Jaisky and popularised by Fauzana. The study employs a qualitative approach with descriptive ethnographic methods. Data collection techniques include literature review, observation, interviews, and documentation. The analysis of the musical structure refers to the theories of William P. Malm and Karl-Edmund Prier as well as the concept of musical structure according to Yostra, which includes melody, rhythm, harmony, and dynamics. The results show that the song “Tungkek Mambaok Rabah” has a simple yet functional musical structure, featuring a linear, repetitive melody predominantly using stepwise motion, a stable rhythm oriented to the text, functional tonal harmony that is diatonic, and dynamics that are implicit and contextual. The meaning of this song reflects the values of Minangkabau culture such as togetherness, solidarity, family responsibility, and the importance of supporting each other in facing life's challenges. The song portrays a dynamic brotherhood relationship that remains based on love and deliberation. Thus, the song “Tungkek Mambaok Rabah” not only serves as entertainment but also as a medium for character education and the preservation of local culture. This study is expected to contribute to the development of music art studies, particularly the analysis of the structure and meaning of Minangkabau regional songs.
